Alex Georgiou - Traditional artist and illustrator
I’m a self-taught artist based in Melbourne, Australia. I create traditional, handmade art and predominantly work with charcoal, graphite, ink, and various paint mediums from time to time. I produce artwork with symbolism and sombre, reflective undertones, inspired by Judeo-Christian themes, melancholia, fairytales, and the macabre.
Drawing has been part of my life since early childhood, but it has been my ongoing desire to truly master the craft that has led me to pursue the technical foundations of illustration, such as perspective, composition, techniques, colour theory, form, light, and shadow.
My work is deeply influenced by masters of traditional illustration, including Gustave Doré and Joseph Clement Coll, as well as contemporary manga and comic artists such as Junji Ito, Katsuhiro Otomo, Kazuo Umezu, Naoki Urasawa, George Pérez, Bernie Wrightson, Virgil Finlay, Karl Kopinski, and David Finch.
